Amalgamate

Amalgamate was a site-specific installation developed through a collaboration with Ryan Haselman.  The montage was constructed by photographing two specific locations, one in Arizona and the other in Illinois.  It was photographed specifically to exist in the dimensions of The Kitchenette Gallery in Phoenix, Arizona.

The idea grew out of an interest to document both the similarities and differences between two distinct agricultural environments and blend them together.  For example both areas are flat with endless skies, along with a base of soil to plant crops.  This sky and earth however are unique and present a contrasting aesthetic.  The light blends cool attributes from one region to warm in the other.

Ultimately the piece was constructed with over 2500 images that transformed the gallery space.  While the galley layout was rather small, the expanse nature of the landscape altered perception.  Some viewers felt claustrophobic while others experienced a spatial expanse.  It was this exploration of a site-specific piece that drove the core foundation of the project.
